Biography: Dr. Marie Jacobsson is Principal Legal Adviser on International Law at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and member of the U.N. International Law Commission. She is also Associate Professor of International Law at Lund University, Sweden. The title of her doctoral thesis is: The Antarctic Treaty System Ð Erga Omnes or Inter Partes?Following her appointment as an expert in international law at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1987, she has led intergovernmental negotiations and has gained particular experience in international peace and security, the law of the sea, and polar affairs, international humanitarian and human rights law, treaty law, space law, terrorism, and disarmament. She has a long-standing interest in the polar regions, having worked with polar regions issues since 1986 both on a professional and an academic basis.Previous to the Foreign Ministry, she worked as a security policy analyst in the Swedish Armed Forces. She regularly publishes academic and popular scientific articles. Her book International Law, the Sea and the Individual has just been published.
